About the Project
This was a multi-year project to reclaim closed mines in Northern Idaho, all superfund sites in the Wallace area. The job required large-scale earthmoving, capping, and sealing of contaminated soils. Our team was brought in to temporarily stabilize the soils and restore the sites to a naturally vegetated state. We were chosen for our long history of large-scale restoration in difficult areas, our accurate application of materials, and our ability to perform the work within a very tight schedule.

Challenges
Heavy equipment was operating in close proximity to our work areas. The ground was very muddy, making travel difficult in many areas, and crews also had to deal with snow overnight. In addition, all employees required OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification.
How We Solved It
Our team brought in a triple-axle/triple-drive truck and a 10-wheel-drive off-road truck with every tire chained up. We spent extra time managing safety procedures, and utilized Apex 275 hp Super Hydroseeders to shoot in excess of 300 feet. In extremely difficult areas, we hooked our trucks to D-8 Cats to manage the terrain.
